Frequently Asked Questions

There are many preconceived notions about shipping containers. We are here to dispel some of the myths with facts and answer some of the questions that we often hear. Here is where you can find a lot of the answers to questions that we hear most often and get the facts about container homes.

Myth: "It will be too hot!"

Fact: Nope. The spray foam insulation and high efficiency A/C system basically turns them into massive Yeti coolers! And the electric bill won't have you hot under the collar every month!

Myth: "They're too small!"

Fact: They are surprisingly spacious. If you still need more space, we can utilize multiple shipping containers to create a larger home. The end result can be a traditional sized home, or bigger, that is far superior in quality and construction. By building your home with containers you can have it faster, stronger and for less money!

Myth: "I won't be able to get mortgage!"

Fact: Uh, yes you will. We have plenty of loan solutions, ready to finance your home. So, yes, you can get a mortgage.

Myth: "There is no way I can get it permitted!"

Fact: False. Shipping containers are an approved building material both in the International Building Codes and International Commercial Codes. In areas where you need permits to build, it is the exact same process to build a container home. Everything we build is built to code.

Question: "What sizes to they come in?"

Answer: The most popular sizes are 20 foot and 40 foot containers. Although containers come in both standard height (8.6' tall) and High Cube (9.6' tall) we almost exclusively go with the high cube containers as the higher ceiling makes the space feel a lot bigger.

Question: "Can I see my container as it is being built?"

Answer: Yes. However we do require an appointment. This is a construction facility with equipment being moved around and we want to make sure to keep you safe when you are here. We do give you pictures at every step of the way so you can follow the progress of your build.

Question: "Can I design my own container home?"

Answer: Of course! We welcome all ideas for design. Keep in mind that we strive to keep our homes as affordable as possible. A lot of the designs made popular on Pinterest and YouTube with cantilevered designs can be rather expensive. Our methods will always start with affordability in mind and our experience with container homes has taught us that more outlandish the design, the more it will cost but we are here to make our customers happy with their home. We will build you anything you want that your budget will allow.

Myth: "It is so different from a traditional home! My friends won't like it!"

Fact: You need cooler friends. These things are awesome and currently the fastest growing trend in housing! Leave the Jones' behind and come sit at the cool kid's table. Your IG feed will be awash with vacation photos of you living your best life with all the money you will save.
